Permit me to set the scene. You've been driving, flying, or riding the train or bus for hours to see your companion. You both decide to go to the cinema. You've chosen a good movie to watch. You've got the snacks. The lights begin to dim and you spend the next hour or so in silence. Does anyone else see what's wrong with this?

You may be lucky enough to get a whole weekend together, or maybe just a few hours, however long you are planning to visit with your long distance partner, choosing a date where you are both silent for the entire time isn't the best idea.

Instead try to choose some ideas that will get you chatting, touching and bonding. I'm certain that you can think of some better ideas if you really put your mind to it. But incase you are unable to, here are a few of our favorites.

Star Gazing

Drive away from the bright lights in your town. Lay a blanket on the ground and bring some warm cocoa. If you're computer smart, download an iphone application called "Star Walk" which lets you monitor over 2 hundred thousand celestial bodies and has lots of information about stars and constellations. By doing things like these, it will give you a great opportunity to speak about your future together and really grow your trust in the relationship.

Ice Rink

You don't have to be a pro figure skater or a world class NHL player to have a fun date at the ice rink. In fact, you don't even have to be good at ice skating at all. You are sure to be grabbing each others hands as you skate around the rink. If it's your first time then you may find it hard to get your balance. But you shouldn't worry, over on the ice now and again. Gents, please remember to give your girl a hand while she gets back on her feet. And Gals, please don't chuckle too much when he falls. This date can get extremely physical and pretty soon I'm sure you'll be pretending to fall just so that you can grab onto each other.

Mountaineering

Pack a picnic, a map, and go spend the day together in the great outdoors. Be sure to take a camera for those perfect picture moments, and remember to bring a makeshift first aid kit and plenty of liquids to drink. This can be a great activity to develop your abilities to make decisions and work with one another.

Tropical Aquarium

This is an awesome date idea if you have a local aquarium in your city. Chances are during the day time it will be pretty quiet and it will offer some amazing sights of fish whizzing through the waters. You could sit there all day and chat with each other, learning all about the fish, and also learning about yourselves.

Dining Out

It doesn't have to be extremely expensive, although it can if you want. I am sure your partner would love it if you prepared a meal for them. No matter where you opt to have your dinner date, nothing quite beats eating with candle lights and a rose on the table. And gentlemen, let me give you some advice. A woman just loves it if you prepare a fancy meal for them. Any type of pasta is my favorite.
